Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our growing construction company. This role will support financial operations with a focus on job costing, project accounting, and maintaining accurate financial records. The ideal candidate has experience in the construction industry or a strong understanding of project-based accounting and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain general ledger entries, journal entries, and account reconciliations
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Track and analyze job costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses
- Support project managers with budget tracking and financial reporting
- Prepare and review work-in-progress (WIP) schedules
- Process and monitor subcontractor payments, including lien waivers and compliance documentation
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and vendor statements
- Assist in preparing financial statements and management reports
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies
- Support external audits and provide necessary documentation
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2-4 years of accounting experience (construction or project-based accounting preferred)
- Knowledge of job costing and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage 100 Contractor, QuickBooks, Viewpoint, or similar)
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs a plus)
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- 75-85k
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the construction or contractor industry
- Familiarity with AIA billing, WIP reporting, and retainage tracking
